Sanksrit - Who owns it?

Sanskrit cannot be compared with any of the Languages of the world because it is the Mother of all Languages. It is something that has come to Humanity through hearing (Shravana) by Seers of the past. Primarily the sacred chants (mantras) are something that is Downloaded from the space (Aakasha) and each of those chanting signifies/elevates a certain aspect of the cosmic subtle energy (Devas). These are essentially sounds that are cognised out of nothingness when seers reached higher states of consciousness. I would even go to the extent of saying that every language that has ever evolved in this world is derived from these basic sounds that were downloaded. And every culture has its share of richness of how this evolution itself has happened. But the center piece of what I want to convey in this blog is that Sanskrit is definitely the mother of all these evolutions. And I am saying this not because I am from India. Sanskrit is one which can’t be owned by Anybody. Other way to say this is, Sanskrit is one language that should be owned by Everyone in this world because every other Language has evolved from this.

There is a certain distorted history lesson that is being taught in India even today which was originally propounded by the British as a concerted method to kill the Indian culture. Strangely Indian culture still survives thanks to the tireless efforts of the saintly people of this country. This distorted history is the Aryan-Dravidian theory that has essentially even made an entire political establishment in the state of Tamil Nadu survive for the past 70 years. The British were astonished by the richness of the Indian culture and in order to destroy it, they simply created a theory that states that all the richness comes from outside the country somewhere from central Asia and thus creating an impression that India is inherently a country depried of any richness of culture of its own and that every form of richness - be it intellectual, Artistic, Architectural, Spritual, comes entirely from a different sect of people called Aryans coming from central Asia. Funnily enough even after Genetic studies clearly establish that there is a genetic relationship between all Indians and that the Aryan and Dravidian divide is a myth, still the schools teach the same old distored history. I only hope this will change very soon.

The reason why I bring the above point in this blog is because that distorted theory also states that Sanskrit was broiught to India by Aryans which is entirely a falsehood. As I stated in my introduction, Sanskrit belongs to Everyone in this world. For that matter even English which is being documented as one of the “West Germanic” Languages has close of 70% of its vocabulary from Sanskrit. For example, even if you take very simple words like “Ray”, it comes from the Sanskrit word “Ra” which means light. The word “Brother” comes from the Sanskrit word “Bhratri” and the word “Mother” comes from sanskrit word “Mathru”. I can go on and on.

The one that blew me away was the way months of English Calendar are named. This is one thing which concretized my idea of Sanskrit being mother of all languages. It only takes a little bit of awareness which makes it quite obvious. I never realised this untill my Master His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar pointed it out in one of the Gatherings (Satsangs) that he addresses everyday. And that was put as a simple question - Do you know what is the origin of the names September, October, November and December? Once he explained it, I realized it is such an obvious observation atleast for the Indians, if only somebody cares to observe. September comes from “Saptha Amber” - The Seventh Sky, October comes from “Ashta Amber” - Eighth Sky, November comes from “Nava Amber” - Ninth Sky and December comes from “Dasha Amber” - The Tenth Sky. They all actually indicate the number of the 12 month calendar. You may ask me isn’t December 12th month of the calendar and not 10th? Alas you don’t know the fact that December was indeed the 10th month of the year in the Calendar of Romulus which began in March. And not surprisingly enough every culture on this Earth celebrates New Year only in March or April.

I gave the above examples just for the Language of English because that is something everyone who can read this blog can relate to! Every language has its own share of Sanskrit words, but unfortunately there has not been enough research done from this angle and the research scholars completely ignore this aspect due to the lack of Indic knowledge. There is a dire need for scholars to wake up and do research on this without any political bias or prejudice. After all who owns Sanskrit? - It is Everyone on this Planet.

Jai Guru Dev!
